The Huron County Library is very pleased to offer a wide variety of new technology-based tools, programs and services in 2025! Learn a new skill, gather friends for a round of gaming, escape to a new reality and more!

create: with Cricut®

Get creative in 2025 with the Huron County Library’s new Cricut® cutting machine!

A Cricut® is a digital cutting machine used for handicrafts. Its easy-to-use design program on a laptop creates incredibly accurate cuts based on your custom design. A Cricut® is permanently available for public use at the Goderich Branch, as well as on a rotational schedule at all Huron County Library branches.

Please note that users must successfully pass certification before using the devices on their own. Users must also be ages 13 and older.

You are welcome to bring in your own vinyl and cardstock to use. Vinyl and cardstock are also available for purchase. The library offers both permanent and temporary (useful for stencils) vinyl in black and white, and cardstock in a variety of colours:

  • $3  –  12″X12″ of vinyl and transfer tape
  • $0.25 – 8.5”x11” cardstock

Goderich Branch Maker Space

Create, play, learn, and connect at the Goderich Branch’s Maker Space! The public is welcome to explore a wide variety of maker tools and technology by dropping in during regular branch hours. Please note that users must successfully pass certification before using the Cricut®, Button Maker and Virtual Reality headsets before using these items on their own.

Cricut®

Once certified, the Cricut® is available during regular branch hours on a walk-in basis. Bring your own cardstock or vinyl, or purchase from the branch:

  • Vinyl – 12×12 = $3
  • Cardstock – 8.5 x 11 = $0.25
Virtual Reality

Once certified, Virtual Reality is available during regular branch hours on a walk-in basis.

Button Maker

Once certified, the Button Maker is available during regular branch hours on a walk-in basis.

  • Cost: $0.25/button
Nintendo Switch

Available in the Teen Lounge for ages 12-18 during regular branch hours.

Lending Laptop

Available for in-branch use on a walk-in basis during regular hours.

Tech 101

Become a certified user of the Huron County Library’s new technology by taking a Tech 101 workshop to learn how to safely use Virtual Reality headsets, button maker or Cricut® machines.

Tech 101 Cricut®

Become a certified user on the Library’s new Cricut® machine! Sessions run monthly at different branches and will teach participants how to safely use the equipment.

Virtual Reality

Use the Library’s Virtual Reality headset to dive into the action with games like Beat Saber, enjoy immersive travel experiences, meditate in serene virtual environments, and more!

Gaming

Grab your friends and head to the Library for some exciting gaming sessions using our Nintendo Switch or PlayStation5. Please note that age restrictions may apply – check with branch staff prior to use.
